Barcelona empties out every August — offices shut early, courts pause, even your favourite bakery disappears for three weeks. Sort these 8 things now, while everyone's still at their desk.
TIE renewals, NIE appointments, residency paperwork — Extranjería runs on a skeleton crew all August and slots practically vanish. If anything's due to expire in the next two months, get on the booking portal now, not in three weeks.
Banks, town halls and plenty of offices switch to jornada intensiva from June through September — a single 8am–3pm shift with no afternoon reopening. Turning up at 4pm for a bank errand will get you a locked door.
August is vacaciones judiciales in Spain — courts don't hear cases, hearings don't happen, and new filings sit untouched for a month. If you've got a landlord dispute or paperwork stuck in process, push for movement before July 31.
Catalunya's official summer sales run through the end of August, but the best sizes and stock go fast — big chains like Zara and Massimo Dutti started marking down in late June. Good window for furnishing a new flat or grabbing warm layers before a trip home.
