Post #2 mentioned these certificates briefly. Here's the genuine depth — including something important for construction workers specifically that changes what you actually need to do, and who should be paying for it.
Construction: Two Steps, Not One
A minimum 20-hour safety course, with a general module plus a specific module for your actual trade (bricklaying, formwork, electrical, painting, excavation, and others). This gets you a training certificate — genuinely just the first step.
You'll also need: a recent passport-style photo, a copy of your DNI/NIE, an up-to-date Informe de Vida Laboral (work-life report) from the TGSS, and at least one of: a payslip, your work contract, or a company certificate. Apply in person at a processing point or online.
Under Article 19 of Ley 31/1995 (Spain's workplace safety law), the employer is legally obligated to cover the cost of your PRL training. You should never be asked to pay for it yourself — not upfront, and not through a deduction from your nómina. If this happens to you, it's genuinely worth raising directly, since it isn't a normal or legal cost for you to bear.
The physical TPC card is valid for 5 years from issuance. To renew it, you genuinely just need to show you've worked at least 30 days in construction within the 5 years before it expires, plus the standard documents again.
A TPC card is genuinely recognised on any construction site across Spain, not just where you got it — and can be verified on-site via QR code or the Fundación Laboral's website.
Food Handling: One Certificate Covers Everything
Since Real Decreto 109/2010 eliminated Spain's old official "carnet" system, there's genuinely no distinction anymore between "high risk" and "low risk" food sectors, like there used to be. One single certificate now covers any job involving food — preparation, production, packaging, storage, transport, sale, or service, whether that's a restaurant kitchen, a shop, or food production work.
The course itself (in-person or online, through an authorised training centre) covers basic microbiology, contamination prevention, food preservation, HACCP principles, cleaning practices, and allergens — genuinely practical content, not overly technical, and quick to complete.
Delivery: What Vehicle You Use Genuinely Matters
Genuinely no special licence needed beyond normal traffic rules — this is why app-based delivery is such an accessible starting point (Post #2).
This genuinely requires a valid motorcycle licence matching the specific vehicle's engine size — confirm the exact licence category the employer requires before applying, since it varies by the actual moto provided.
A valid Spanish driving licence, your own insured and roadworthy vehicle — no separate certificate beyond this (Post #2 has the full requirements).
Where to Actually Get These
PRL courses are widely available through training centres affiliated with the Fundación Laboral de la Construcción — many employers or staffing agencies (Post #4) can point you to one directly, and some genuinely arrange it for you as part of onboarding, given it's their legal obligation to cover it. Food handling certificates are available through many authorised centres online, often completed in a single sitting. For construction specifically, once you've got your PRL certificate, TPC applications can be submitted at a processing point in person or through the online system — the Fundación Laboral's own website lists current options.
Genuinely, you also need the separate TPC card application — don't assume the course certificate alone gets you on site legally.
This is genuinely your employer's legal obligation — raise it directly if you're asked to cover this cost.
