Emilia Molero and Rocío Vilaró, both Spanish ELE* teachers themselves at the time, have co-directed International House Barcelona Escuela Mediterráneo, a quaint school in an old building near the Maritime Museum just off the Rambla for 30 years!

The people behind the success

A solid team of dedicated and passionate teachers is the key! Without them and the amazing administration team, there would be no school. This celebration is a real opportunity to thank the team from the longest standing to the newest :

The pillar of the teaching team DOS Diego Ballesteros, the ever so cheerful and rigorous teacher Inma Bosch who have both been with the school for many years now.

Training and Research Coordinator Begoña Montmany, whose soft spot is the refugee courses the school offers out of pure generosity, and who joined 6 years ago with a strong previous experience at International House.

And above all, highly dedicated teachers Diana, Andrea, Laura, Susana, Jasse and wonderful administration staff Chie, Mengjun and Laura as well as the many teachers and administration teams who contributed to the school’s success in the past 30 years, thank you for your hard work !

What makes the directors special is their unique and complementary personalities, not unlike the Yin and the Yang. It’s their common vision (and humour!) that brings them together all those years ago to found the Spanish school, located in the centre of beautiful Barcelona in Spain.

It’s their generosity, warmth and local ties that make them ideal to hire professionals that share their value for high quality teaching and genuine care about the students, by offering them a safe haven for them to study and be who they are as individuals thanks to the respectful and inclusive atmosphere students feel in the classroom.

The Method

Their additional secret is the development of a methodology that helps students produce sentences from the start and debate around real life topics. This promotes the school to the standard it is today. Past students who have had the Spanish learning experience with the school tell others and that’s essentially how the school flourishes since 1996.

It is a real milestone to join International House this year, and the aim for the next 30 years is to continue offering a wide range of qualitative Spanish courses that include General Language, Conversation and Grammar classes in an open-minded environment where people truly are from all over the world.
