What Does Your Spanish Job Offer Actually Pay? (Free Calculator Inside)
You get the offer letter. The number is good — better than good. You do the mental math, convert it to rupees, picture the life it buys you in Barcelona. And then payday comes, and the number in your account is… smaller. A lot smaller.
Every Indian expat who’s worked in Spain has had that moment. Between IRPF income tax, Social Security contributions, and a handful of rules most job offers never mention, your gross salary and your real salary can differ by 25–40%. Nobody hands you a translator for that gap — until now.
We built a free Spain Salary Calculator that runs your offer through the actual 2026 tax rules, region by region, so you know exactly what you’re negotiating before you sign anything.
Why your payslip never matches the offer letter
Spain doesn’t tax everyone the same way, even at the same salary. Three things quietly reshape your number:
- 🏛️ IRPF is split national + regional. The same €45,000 salary is taxed differently in Madrid versus Catalonia versus Valencia — the region you’re registered in changes your bracket.
- 💼 Social Security comes out before you see it. Roughly 6.5% of your salary goes to contributions your employer withholds automatically — pension, unemployment, and a few others you never see itemised.
- ✈️ New arrivals may qualify for a completely different regime. The Beckham Law lets some newly-relocated employees pay a flat 24% instead of Spain’s normal progressive scale — a huge difference at higher salaries, and something almost no offer letter flags for you.
None of this is a scam or a hidden fee — it’s just how Spanish payroll works. But it’s very hard to plan a move, or negotiate a raise, without seeing the real number first.
Try the calculator
Punch in your gross salary, your region, and your situation — children, pension contributions, disability, whatever applies — and it shows you your real net salary, a full breakdown of IRPF and Social Security, whether the Beckham Law works out better for you, and how your same offer would look in six different cities.

Enter a gross salary and this runs it through the 2026 IRPF withholding scale, regional tax brackets, and Social Security contribution rules — including the Beckham Law impatriate regime — the way AEAT's own methodology does it.

Reading your result: a quick survival guide
📋 Effective rate vs. marginal rate — your marginal rate is what your next euro gets taxed at. Your effective rate is what you actually pay overall. The second one is the one that matters for budgeting.
📋 12 vs. 14 payments — many Spanish contracts pay in 14 instalments, with two extra “paga extra” payments in summer and December. Same annual total, different monthly rhythm — plan your rent accordingly.
📋 Beckham Law isn’t automatic — you need to not have been a Spanish tax resident in the last five years, and you need to apply within six months of starting work. If you think you qualify, talk to a gestor before your first payslip, not after.
📋 Employer cost ≠ your salary — if you’re comparing offers, remember the number your employer sees (salary + their Social Security contribution) is always higher than your gross. It’s a useful figure if you’re the one negotiating a package for someone else.
If you’re planning the move, not just the offer
Knowing your real number is step one. If you’re actually relocating to Barcelona or elsewhere in Catalunya, the rest of the admin stack still needs sorting — SIM card, housing, banking, the works. That’s exactly what the rest of Catalunyaar is here for.
