Barcelona's Kannada community is inviting the wider city — Kannadigas and non-Kannadigas alike — to celebrate Gauri Ganesha Habba on Sunday, 20 September 2026. The flyer's own wording is a genuinely open one: it "cordially invites you and your family," with no membership or community restriction attached. Spain Kannada Koota is organising it, and the celebration runs a full day at GLOP Center in Barcelona — the same venue that hosts Barcelona Ganesh Utsav the day before, on 19 September.

What is Gauri Ganesha Habba?

In Karnataka households, Ganesh Chaturthi doesn't stand alone — it's preceded by Swarna Gauri Vrata, a day dedicated to Goddess Gauri (Parvati). The story behind it is simple and warm: Gauri is welcomed into the home first, as a mother visiting her parents' house before the birth of her child. The next day, her son Ganesha arrives — and the two days are celebrated together as one flowing festival, Gauri Ganesha Habba ("habba" simply means festival in Kannada).

It's one of the most widely observed festivals in Karnataka, marked with Gauri and Ganesha idols or images installed at home, flowers, festive food, and family gatherings — themes of prosperity, motherhood, and new beginnings run through both days. Diaspora communities abroad, including here in Barcelona, often combine the two-day home tradition into a single community event, which is exactly what this Sunday gathering appears to be.

What to expect

• A full day, not a quick visit. The flyer lists a single continuous window, 9 AM to 5 PM, so this reads as an all-day community gathering rather than a short ceremony.
• Come as a family. The invitation is explicitly addressed to "you and your family," and children's ticket tiers are built in.
• Food is part of the ticket price in most Habba-style community events of this kind, though the flyer doesn't itemise the menu — worth confirming with the organisers if you have dietary needs.
