Garba Night 2026
One circle. A thousand swirling chaniyas. And the dhol drops right in the middle of Hostafrancs.
Close your eyes for a second. The dhol kicks in, somebody's masi is already three steps ahead of the rhythm, and a circle of strangers slowly turns into a circle of family. That's garba. And on Saturday 10 October 2026, it's happening right here in Barcelona.
If you've been missing that Navratri feeling since you moved to Spain (the late nights, the outfit planning, the aunty who somehow never gets tired), this is your night. Bring your dandiya, bring your friends, and bring the Catalan flatmate who keeps asking what Navratri actually is.

Why this date hits different
Sharad Navratri 2026 officially begins on Sunday 11 October and runs until 19 October, with Dussehra on 20 October. That makes Saturday the 10th the perfect Navratri eve: the night Barcelona's Indian community gets the first round of garba in before the nine nights begin. And with no work the next morning, nobody has to leave early.
DJ Tigerstyle: the name missing from the flyer
The flyer left it out, so we're saying it loud: DJ Tigerstyle is on the decks. Expect the full journey, from classic garba and dandiya raas rounds that your parents would recognise from the society ground back home, to high-energy desi remixes once the circle really starts flying.
Dress the part and have fun with it. A mirror-work chaniya choli, a bright kediyu, heavy oxidised jewellery, or your own twist with clean white sneakers all belong in the circle. Get your photos done early, then put the phone away. The best moments of garba happen when you're actually in the circle.
First time? Your 60-second garba crash course
Garba is a circular folk dance from Gujarat, performed around the garbo (a lamp inside a perforated clay pot) or an image of Maa Amba to honour the goddess during Navratri. The circle keeps moving, nobody is left outside it, and everyone from age 6 to 76 dances together. Dandiya raas is its energetic cousin, danced in pairs with decorated sticks.
- Start at the outer edge. The outer circle moves slower and is beginner-friendly.
- Pick one person and copy them. Find someone in front of you who clearly knows the steps.
- Clap on the beat. Lost the step? Keep clapping and walking with the circle. Nobody minds.
- Dandiya etiquette: strike the sticks, not fingers, and keep swings controlled when it gets crowded.
How to reach Plaça d'Herenni
Plaça d'Herenni is a small square in the heart of Hostafrancs (Sants-Montjuïc district), between Carrer del Callao and Carrer de la Torre d'en Damians, just north of the Mercat d'Hostafrancs. Locals often call it Plaça del Sol.
📍 Open directions in Google Maps
- L1Hostafrancs is the closest stop. Exit onto Carrer de la Creu Coberta and walk a few minutes to the square. Best from Plaça de Catalunya, Universitat or Espanya.
- L3Tarragona works well from Passeig de Gràcia, Liceu or Paral·lel, followed by a short walk through Hostafrancs.
- L5Sants Estació (also on L3) is about 400 m away. Handy from Sagrada Família, Diagonal or Collblanc.
- RComing from outside Barcelona? Rodalies and regional trains stop at Barcelona Sants, so you can walk from there without changing to the metro.
Heading home at 11:30 PM? Barcelona's metro runs through the night on Saturdays, so there's no rush for a last train. Check the TMB website for the latest timetable on the day.
Garba night checklist
- Contact Garba Group for bookings: 632 683 275
- Flat, comfortable footwear. It's an outdoor stone square, not a wooden stage.
- A light layer, as October evenings in Barcelona cool down after sunset.
- Your own dandiya sticks, if you have them.
- A water bottle. Five hours of garba is a full workout.
- A T-mobilitat card or contactless bank card for the metro.
- Safety pins for the dupatta. Trust us.
- Respect the neighbours. It's a residential square, so keep it clean and keep it kind.
