Barcelonam 2026: Barcelona's Onam Celebration Is Back This September

Onam is coming to Barcelona — and you don't need to be Malayali to join in. The Association of Malayalees in Barcelona (AMB) is hosting Barcelonam 2026, a full Onam Sadhya feast on a banana leaf, flower carpets (pookalam), traditional music, and games, open to guests and non-members alike.

What Is Onam, and What to Expect

Onam is Kerala's biggest harvest festival, marking the mythical homecoming of King Mahabali. Traditionally it's celebrated with an elaborate vegetarian feast called the Sadhya, served on a banana leaf, alongside pookalam — intricate flower carpets laid at the entrance of homes — and days of music, dance, and games.

At Barcelonam 2026, expect a Sadhya-style banana-leaf meal, a pookalam display, traditional games, and live cultural performances, all at Centre Civic Casinet d'Hostafrancs.
