Enrolling Your
Child: The Actual
Process
Post #1 covered the big picture. This is the real walkthrough — the actual 2026-2027 dates, and a genuinely important fact about the points system that surprises a lot of families.
The Big Dates for 2026-2027
Genuinely worth checking this to see which schools have places available before applications open.
For Infantil I3 and Primaria — this is genuinely your actual application window, so have your documents ready before it opens.
If applicants are tied on points for a place, this random draw (sorteig) genuinely decides — the final ordered list is published the following day.
The actual formal enrollment at your assigned school, genuinely the final step before the school year starts.
The Points System, In Full
Genuinely the single biggest factor if it applies to you.
This post's headline fact — genuinely the deciding factor for most newcomer families.
If you genuinely hold official carnet de família numerosa or monoparental status, this adds meaningfully to your total.
Class Sizes and Reserved Seats
I3 classrooms are genuinely capped at 20 students in public schools (down from 25 before 2022-23) — concertada centers have been adopting this progressively. Within that cap, schools also reserve 2 to 4 seats per classroom specifically for children with special educational needs (NESE), which stay blocked until summer. If your child doesn't have a NESE designation, you're genuinely competing for the remaining 16 to 18 seats, not the full 20 — worth understanding this when assessing your actual odds at a specific school.
What Happens After You Apply
Once submitted, your application is genuinely scored against every other applicant for your listed schools, and places are assigned in points order. If demand exceeds supply and applicants are tied, the tie-break draw (Section 1) decides. Genuine support exists if you get stuck — families who have difficulty completing the process, or lack the means to do it themselves, can visit designated support offices directly.
This post's headline fact — worth factoring into housing decisions if you're planning ahead.
Genuinely a short window (roughly two weeks) — mark the dates from Section 1 well in advance.
Genuinely worth remembering the NESE-reserved seats reduce this in practice, per Section 3.
