This document tries to answer the most frequently asked doubts about the documents needed for a Spanish student visa for for more than 180 days (Long term) (not applicable for PhD students as they need work visa and not student visa).

NOTE
-
Things keep changing. It is highly recommended that you always check the requirements by yourself from the embassy/consulate of
-
As of 2021 September, students visas do not require any translation where the document is written in English.
-
If you observe carefully, wherever the word “translation is mentioned” it is preceded by the phrase “where applicable” which means in case it is in any other foreign language you need to translate it from any of the sworn translators found in the link https://www.exteriores.gob.es/Consulados/mumbai/en/ServiciosConsulares/Paginas/ Consular/Visado-de-estudios.aspx
-
To be on the safe side. Repeatedly email them (Delhi/Mumbai based on your residence) from multiple email addresses (as they usually reply very late) and clarify it. Carry a print of the clarification too.
DOCUMENTS REQUIRED
. National visa application forms, duly filled out, signed by the person in whose name the visa will be issued, and 2 recent passport-size photographs in color and with white background attached to the form.
The applicant has to fill it. Please ensure that you have the proper photo.
. Payment of Visa fees must be done only through demand draft in favor of EMBASSY OF SPAIN. Two photocopies of the demand draft must be submitted.
It should be payable in New Delhi. Ensure the spelling “EMBASSY OF SPAIN” is correctly printed on the draft.
. Passport with validity for the entire period for which Studies will be undertaken (or minimum validity of 1 year) and photocopy of all pages of the same.
Check the validity and YES, photocopy of ALL the pages of your passport (not only the front or back but all other pages even if it is blank)!!
. From the educational center (A photocopy of the same must be submitted):
-
Admission Letter: (The admission letter must contain the start date and duration of the course)
Studies: Authorized educational centre in Spain, for undertaking a full-time study program, which leads to obtaining a degree certificate or a certificate of Studies.
Please ensure that you get the original hand-signed and stamped letter from the university posted to your home in India and submit it. It must contain your name and passport number.
The embassy usually doesn’t accept the digitally signed certificate.
Alternative: In case it is impossible to get it posted, print the digitally signed letter in a good quality color printer and on a bond (thick) paper to make it look more authentic. Some of the students I know have done it and they got their visas. In addition, keep emailing the embassy if they accept digitally signed documents and once they say (yes they do), please keep a copy of that email printed with you. The people collecting the documents demand it sometimes (they are usually unaware of what you received in email).
Research or Training: Officially recognized center in Spain for undertaking the said activities. In case of research purpose, the said center will be a University, a center of the Governing body of scientific research, or a public or private institute of Research and Development.
Mobility program of students:
Volunteer: Agreement signed with an organization responsible for the volunteer program (description of activities, conditions, timings, resources, and accommodation)
Ensure that your name and passport number are definitely mentioned apart from the other things.
-
The content of the study plan, training, or research that will be undertaken.
Course name, duration, etc.
-
Proof of payment of the fees or reservation of the course or the study program to be undertaken. In case of minors, the ID proof of the person who has made the payment must be submitted.
Very important! In case you have a scholarship, ask them to send it again hand-signed and stamped to you. Otherwise, print in color on a bond paper and submit it (worst case).
-
Documentation that justifies the proof of accommodation during the stay in Spain, in which the address is indicated. A photocopy of the same must be submitted.
On their website they also mention as shown in the screenshot. So you can also submit a certificate that you need to attend the classes physically in the XYZ location.
When my very close friend applied, we simply had a document from the university stating that the concerned person (with the passport number) shall have access to university residence facilities. WE submitted that only. Apart from that we repeatedly asked the embassy in email whether accommodation proof is needed or not. They said not needed. So we also submitted a copy of that email. Strongly suggest to mail and ask this. It may vary from Mumbai and Delhi. My statements are based on Delhi.
-
Previous academic qualifications of the applicant. An attested true copy by notary of the same must be submitted.
Get a true copy from a notary nearby. It is easy to get.
-
Proof of work experience, if applicable. If you have it, give it.
-
Proof of economic means (A photocopy of the same must be submitted):
SCHOLARSHIPS: Applicants must indicate and justify with documents the scholarship amount, and in such a case, if they will be possessing economic means.
Same hand signed stamped. If not, print in colour on a bond paper to make it look more authentic
OTHER CASES: Applicants must indicate and justify with documents the economic means that will be provided to them by their family members (justifying the family relationship bond and the letter of guarantee/affidavit of support) or the applicants must possess their personal financial means as well justify the same.
Showing the balance in bank account is not necessary. A loan sanction letter from the bank signed by the bank authorities and stamped is sufficient. But make the letter as authentic as possible. It is better to mail them repeatedly and ask them. Carry their reply email in print. It is often the person who collects is unaware of and demands unnecessary things. You need to be prepared and if needed convince them more by showing the email proof. The email proof works immensely. As it is hard to get reply. Mail them the same thing from multiple email addresses and wherever they reply, carry the proof of that.
-
Police Clearance Certificate issued by the competent authorities of the country where the applicant has resided in the last 5 years prior to the submission of the visa application, legalised+authenticated/apostilled. Only in case of adults over the penal age and for duration of stay of more than 180 days.
Very important document. From all countries in the last 5 years. In India, it has to mandatorily be issued from the passport seva kendra nearest to your place of residence. This is most time taking document in certain places. Act fast and get this document ready at the earliest. It is only needed when your stay is more than 180. DO NOT FORGET TO APPOSTILLE IT.
-
Medical certificate issued by any registered medical practitioner. Only in case of duration of stay of more than 180 days. It must bear the stamp of Apostille of Hague.
Get it from any hospital/clinic who can give in print. What is most important is mention the name, passport number and the statement “the applicant do not suffer from any disease that could cause serious repercussions for public health pursuant to the 2005 International Health Regulations“. In the year 2021 no translation were needed (I asked in email and they said student visas are exempted from any translation if the document is in ENGLISH). However it is better to ask them in email repeatedly about it. You never know when things may change.
-
A public or private medical insurance policy issued by an insurance company authorised to operate in Spain. The medical insurance policy must cover the entire period of stay in Spain (if less than one year) or at least one year (if duration of stay is more than one year), and 100% of the medical expenses. It should be an exhaustive medical insurance covering all risks equivalent to the Spanish Public Health System and must not have any co-payments or coverage limits. A photocopy of the same must be submitted.
Do as mentioned. Check policybazar, choose student health insurances and take the one you find the best.
-
In case of minors, when they do not travel accompanied by their parents or guardians, the following documents are MANDATORY: (for the majority, this step is to be skipped)
-
Parents or guardians of the minor: Notary authorization (affidavit on Rs. 100 stamp paper for parents who reside in India), for the purpose of travel and undertaking studies in Spain, in which the details of the educational centre, organization or responsible organisation, person responsible as well as his/her ID proof are mentioned and the estimated period. This must be legalized / apostilled. Once legalized/apostilled, it should translated to Spanish by a sworn translator. A photocopy of the same must be submitted.
-
Person responsible as a guardian for the minor in Spain: Notarised declaration before a Spanish notary public indicating that he/she will be responsible for the minor during the entire period of stay requested, the address where the minor will be residing during the stay, as well as the ID proof of the guardian. A photocopy of the same must be submitted.
-
Certificate from Registro Central de Delincuentes Sexuales issued by the Ministry of Justice in Spain must be submitted issued in the name of the guardian in Spain.
-
-
Power of attorney in case of representatives. A photocopy of the same must be submitted. (in case someone else is submitting/collecting your documents, you need to sign a letter stating that you authorise the XYZ person bearing the passport number (only passport allowed) to submit/collect their documents. Send the scan copy to them via email as well.
