Since the start of the COVID 19 crisis, all the International flights were cancelled from India and Spain as well, leaving many Tourists, Students and many who wanted to visit their family had no option to fly back to India, Among all stranded Indians we had 23 Seamans as well stranded in Barcelona, we covered them in the video,
Firstly, google forms were filled in the last week of March. Embassy of India in Madrid, approached with follow-up emails to collect basic information. after all wait Government of India announced Vande Bharat mission on 7th May ¡, It gave a ray hope to stranded indians in Spain, to be evacuated from Spain, as Spain by then was one the worst countries hit by COVID virus, but by the release of list Phase 1 of the Vande Bharat mission and Spain was neglected, and it created havoc between, but with some social media campaign using #StrandedIndiansinSpain and finally Spain was included in Phase 2, Scheduled flight was scheduled on 31st May.
Forward to today, more than 240 Indians who had applied for the mission had their flight to Delhi, Embassy and Air India are arranged for the safe repatriation of Indian citizens, all 240+ passengers had to pass through thermal screening and other check-in formalities.
Embassy Team under the leadership of Ambassador Sanjay Verma is at the forefront to assist the passengers of Vande Bharat Mission from Spain, The repatriation flight AI 136 for Delhi and Mumbai is scheduled at 2010 hrs
